Meet Artist Ting Miles
Hi, I am Ting Miles and I moved to Skibbereen in 2020 just before lockdown. In my past life I was a lawyer working in London and Singapore. Pencils were something I used eons ago as a student shading ovals in exams, or something older lawyers used to mark up documents by hand. I have no background in art but recently discovered that I can draw and love rendering animals and humans in charcoal/graphite, pastels and coloured pencils. My work uses detailed realism and vibrant colours (for coloured pencil and pastel media) to capture a special moment and the subject’s unique expression and personality.
Commission a drawing
If you’d like to commission a drawing of your favourite pet or human, please feel free to get in touch with me by email or phone. We can then discuss the details of the photo requirement, 40% booking deposit and other processes to create your loved ones into a piece of bespoke artwork.
Getting started
Having a good reference photo is essential to the producing the best quality realistic artwork. Where possible, your photo should be taken in good lighting (without flash), preferably outdoors but not with strong direct sunlight that might cast odd shadows on the subject’s face. Backlit photographs are also difficult for artists to make out the details of the subject. If you are taking photographs of your pet, try to get the phone or camera low down and nearer the animal’s eye line rather than from a great height above. A close up photo with clear eyes and expressions will help to capture your favourite subject’s personality for the art work.
